In the late summer of 2008 the transmission on my 2000 Hyundai Elantra went out. At first I started looking into my options. Should I get a new one put in? Should I get it rebuilt? Should I just get a new car?
Over the previous year I had worked very diligently towards paying of my credit card (one of them). I was rounding the last corner when my car broke down. The idea of charging $1500 or more to my card didn’t sit well with me.
Then it hit me. Why do I need a car?
The idea of not having a car is a daring one for me. I have believed the american dream until recently. The one that tells you to go to college and get a nice car.
Now I’ve decided to try something different. Thus began my experiment. I would buckle down and suffer through the withdraw of not having a car and come out the other side a better man. Or so I could only hope.
